WC-4-3 – Water and Biodiversity

There many spaces in and around water that harbor and influence biodiversity.

These are often captured better through observation. And communicated well through storytelling.

In Pune, we would suggest that students are taken out on water walks, such as:

  1. Pashan lake walk – organised by the Centre for Environment Education (Pune)
  2. Nature walk – along the confluence of Ram and Mula rivers – organised by Jeevitnadi-Living River Foundation

Virtual water walks can be done through the following links:

  1. Ramnadi and Pashan lake virtual walk by Centre for Environment Education
  2. Mula and Mutha virtual river walk by Studio Vitamin-D
  3. Virtual walk along Rushikulaya river and exploring Olive Ridley turtles – by Abhishek Narayan Gorti
  4. Virtual walk along Mumbai’s coastline by Abhishek Jamalabad, Sarang Naik

Several storybooks can be recommended which have been written based on scientific research:

  1. Whispers of a River by Disha Chauhan – produced as a part of Punyache Paani exhibition by the Living Waters Museum
  2. Waiting for Turtles by Pankaj Sekhsaria and Vipin Sketchplore
  3. Naturalist Ruddy by Rohan Chakravarty

Students can themselves explore biodiversity near water bodies using the app – iNaturalist
